The Patriot Guard Riders will help honor the life of a veteran and Rock Island Arsenal employee who passed away.

USMC Desert Storm Veteran, 45-year-old Robert “Mazz” Mazzocco, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at home. He was diagnosed with colon cancer during the summer.

In August, friends of Mazz and his family organized a benefit with proceeds going to a trust fund for his two children. During the benefit, Mazz was leading a pack of motorcyclists on a Fun Run when he was involved in a wreck. Mazz and two others were injured in the accident, but all made it to the benefit.

In honor of his service as a U.S. Marine, the Patriot Guard Riders will be participating in the visitation, funeral, and interment services.

The Visitation will be on Monday, September 23 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 24 at 10:30 a.m. also at Fippinger Funeral Home. Interment services will be at R.I. National Cemetary.
