POW/MIA Recognition Day

Two special events in the Quad Cities are drawing attention to missing and unaccounted for servicemen and women.

The Rock Island Arsenal and Vietnam Veterans of America held ceremonies on September 20, 2013 to observe POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Private First Class Lyle Herman Sheldon was among those in attendance.   The Clinton, Iowa native was a prisoner of war for over 3 years during World War II.  Sheldon was one of three men in attendance to lay a wreath in honor of those still missing or unaccounted for.

142,000 American soldiers have been prisoners of war in the last century.   There are still more than 83,000 Americans listed as missing in action.
