More than 2,000 MidAmerican Energy customers in Bettendorf, Iowa lost electricity Tuesday afternoon, September 17, 2013.

The outage was reported around 1 p.m. in western Bettendorf. A spokesperson for MidAmerican Energy said a cherry picker hit a line and knocked power out for 2,161 customers.

Paul Norton Elementary School, in the 4400 block of Greenbrier Drive, also lost power.

School officials sent a message to parents and patrons saying they were able to continue the school day despite the outage.

We’ve been informed by MidAmerican that the Paul Norton neighborhood and 2,000 area residents are currently experiencing a power outage. We are able to continue our school day with minimal inconvenience to students and staff. However, our phones are not working,” the message said. 

School officials posted a message online at 2:15 p.m. that power had been restored to their building.

The area affected was bordered by the 5000 block of 18th Street, the 2800 block of Willow Drive, the 3600 block of Cedar Wood Court and the 1500 block of Hamilton Court.

MidAmerican Energy reported all power was restored to the affected customers by 2:30 p.m.
