Local dogs are helping out in the fight against cancer.

On Saturday, September 14th, 2013, "Bark for Life" took place at Centennial Park in Davenport.

Similar to Relay for Life, Bark for Life is a canine fundraising walk to help the American Cancer Society find a cure.

Volunteers say the event also honors dogs themselves, who provide comfort to those battling the disease.

"People are recognizing the relationship and the support that they get from the four-legged canines or their family dogs, but also they're recognizing those pets or family members that are winning the battle against cancer or may have lost to cancer," says Mary Schenck.

Bark for Life also included a best-dressed contest, vendor booths, and demos.
