Video leads investigators to rescue dozens of sick cats

Dozens of sick cats were found in an Iowa home after investigators say a YouTube video led to their discovery.

Dozens of sick cats were found in an Iowa home after investigators say a YouTube video led to their discovery.

A YouTube video that showed several children abusing cats led to police and officials from the Clinton Humane Society to remove 73 animals from a Clinton home, according to a report by Radio Iowa on September 12, 2013. In the video, children were shooting the cats with a BB gun. Most of the cats in the home were suffering from health issues.

According to the report, police said that the homeowner was not involved in the video, and is cooperating.

Radio Iowa reported that the homeowner was charged with failure to license an animal and for violating the animal control ordinance governing having more animals than you can control.

According to KROS Radio, Clinton Humane Society Operations Manager Sandi Bartels said she is glad the city is getting involved and that the homeowner is cooperating with authorities.

Bartels said that there are over 100 cats at the Clinton Human Society shelter. She said it will take some time before any of the rescued cats can be adopted, but interested people can come in and fill out an application.

Radio Iowa said that there have not been any charges filed against the children in the video.
