The Bushels for Hunger drive kickoff event was Thursday morning in Moline.

Farmers from the Rock Island County Farm Bureau stocked food at the River Bend Foodbank to start the event. The Rock Island County Farm Bureau is one of five farm bureaus that puts on the food drive.

Since 2010, Bushels for Hunger has raised more than $75,000 for the food bank. In 2012 alone, Bushels for Hunger raised $38,000 for the organization. Farmers also donated more than 4,000 bushels of grain for the campaign last year.

That money provided more than 40,000 meals for needy families. 12 grain elevators throughout the Quad Cities support the drive. They give thousands of dollars to the food bank.

The drive goes through January 31st. If you’re a local farmer looking to donate grain, you can call the Rock Island County Farm Bureau.
