Visitors to the Quad Cities area reportedly churned hundreds of millions of dollars through our area.
A statement from the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau says visitors helped generate thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in income and tax revenue, including setting an all-time record for hotel room revenues in June 2013.
Citing statistics from the U.S. Travel Association, the QCCVB says visitors to Scott County, Iowa and Rock Island County, Illinois generated $810 million in direct expenditures.
That spending helped businesses pay $142 million in payroll to workers in 7,680 jobs.
In addition to business and worker income, visitors generated $40 million in state taxes and $12.8 million in local taxes.
“These numbers show that travel continues to lead our local economy in recovery,” said QCCVB president and CEO Joe Taylor.
Statewide, visitor expenditures totaled $29 billion in Illinois and $7.6 billion in Iowa in 2012.
