A service was held in Dixon to honor firefighters who have passed away.

The Blackhawk Firefighters Association (BFFA) held a memorial service on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Sauk Valley Community College. The service was held in honor of firefighters who served their communities and have since passed away.

In honor of the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the U.S., the service also presented and dedicated a granite stone artifact from the World Trade Center. The college is the new location of the BFFA Memorial and September 11Plaque.

“It seems like it was just a few years ago,” said Dustin Sandrock from Dixon. “It’s a brotherhood, you know. There are 343 brothers that everybody lost, we’ve just got to respect and honor them.”

The BFFA includes over 80 departments throughout northern Illinois.
