Police estimate six hours passed between the time neighbors heard it and the time emergency crews were called to a fatal wreck in Virginia.
Our sister station WTVR reports neighbors reportedly heard the sound of an SUV crashing into a tree in Chesterfield, Virginia at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013.
One neighbor confirmed hearing a loud bang, but she said she thought it might have been a tree falling or something else and not a fatal car wreck.
But police said no one called 9-1-1 to report the wreck until 8:30 a.m.
Twenty-year-old Matthew Farr died in the crash.
Police did not say whether an earlier 9-1-1 call might have saved Farr’s life.
