Officials in the Village of Oquawka, Illinois have banned outdoor burning because of dry weather conditions.

Oquawka Fire Chief Hal Jern said open burning is banned for the village limits “until we receive significant rainfall.”

Storm Track 8 meteorologist Cassie Heiter says the Quad Cities hasn’t had rain since August 7, 2013.

Burn ban advisories were also put in place for locations covered by the Oquawka Volunteer Fire Department Rural Association, asking that people refrain from open burning.

The ban and advisories began Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

Anyone in the Oquawka area who plans to burn outdoors should first contact the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department.
