After years of having their funding cut, the financial situation for the Rock Island-Milan School District is looking up.
During Superintendant Dr. Mike Oberhaus’ annual State of the Schools address on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, he said that for the first time in three years Illinois has not cut funding to the district.
The district faced major cuts during the 2012-2013 school year and $2 million were cut going into the fall of 2013.
“We are in the State of Illinois and finance is a teeter-totter at times, but we do see that they’re catching up on late payments,” said Oberhaus. “That actually helped us to see a better year-end last year than we had budgeted.”
Along with a brighter-looking financial standing, Oberhaus mentioned that the district had implemented new programs to help keep students from dropping out and to get them onto a career track. He also said enrollment has increased since the previous year.
As far as the Audobon school, Oberhaus said it is on the market and there are currently no offers in place.
