It took firefighters nearly two hours to put out a fire that did heavy damage to Bettendorf Home Repair.

Workers at a neighboring business reported the fire at Bettendorf Home Repair, 3221 State Street, just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013.

Firefighters from Bettendorf, Riverdale and Rock Island Arsenal fire departments worked the blaze.  The fire was out just before 11:30 p.m.

A statement from the Bettendorf Fire Department said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters said the building sustained heavy damage from smoke and fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

An email from Lenny Wilkinson of Bettendorf Home Repair said the fire was actually at another business which rents space in the same building.  Wilkinson said Bettendorf Home Repair did suffer “extensive smoke and fire fighting damage” but that his company “is still operating and still serving our customers.”

Officials confirmed Friday, August 30, 2013 that the fire started at McArtor Construction which is in a back unit of the same building occupied by Bettendorf Home Repair.
