Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says he has filed a civil lawsuit against Walgreen Co. of Illinois.
Koster alleges a two-month-long investigation showed Walgreens stores in at least four Missouri communities advertised lower prices on display tags than those charged to customers at the checkout. Investigators reported 43 of 205 items they purchased at eight random Walgreens stores had price discrepancies.
Koster’s complaint also alleges Walgreens promised price reductions or savings at the register in connection with a rewards program, but those savings were not always received by customers.
Koster wants the court to prohibit Walgreens from engaging in deceptive pricing, and he wants the company to pay penalties and reimburse his office for the cost of the investigation and prosecution.
