Moline runners race through color clouds

Thousands of runners started a 5k in Moline squeaky clean, most were donning white shirts in preparation for a blast of color.

Thousands of runners started this 5k in Moline squeaky-clean, and most were donning white shirts in preparation for a blast of color.

The Color Me Rad run set-up its course at the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois on Saturday, August 24, 2013. Race organizer, James Stewart said it was a great turnout for the Quad Cities with about 4,100 participants.

Racers got pelted with clouds of colored cornstarch as they made their way through the untimed course. Nearly 5,000-pounds of cornstarch was prepared for the run.

Stewart said the event is just one big party designed to focus on a fun morning to get people out and exercising. He said while the race is not a competitive one, all runners are welcome, from beginners to professionals.

Color Me Rad is a private company that holds races globally and works with local charities. Stewart said as long as Color Me Rad is wanted back in the Quad Cities, they plan on returning for a second year in 2014.
