A volunteer firefighter has been sentenced after pleading guilty to using a department credit card for personal use, according to investigators.

On Friday, August 23, 2013, the Muscatine County Attorney, Alan Ostergren, said that 42-year-old Brandon Vandusen was placed on supervised probation and ordered to pay victim restitution. Vandusen was a volunteer firefighter with the Atalissa Fire Department at the time.

According to a previous report, in April 2013 Vandusen was charged with second-degree theft and pleaded guilty to the charge in Muscatine County Court in July.

Ostergren said the defendant has been ordered to pay the Atalissa Volunteer Fire Department in full.

β€œIt was important to me that he be held accountable for his conduct while also making sure the fire department had the money back as quickly as possible,” Ostergren said. β€œI know those funds are an important part of providing fire protection to the people served by the fire department.”
