A volunteer firefighter has been sentenced after pleading guilty to using a department credit card for personal use, according to investigators.

On Friday, August 23, 2013, the Muscatine County Attorney, Alan Ostergren, said that 42-year-old Brandon Vandusen was placed on supervised probation and ordered to pay victim restitution. Vandusen was a volunteer firefighter with the Atalissa Fire Department at the time.

According to a previous report, in April 2013 Vandusen was charged with second-degree theft and pleaded guilty to the charge in Muscatine County Court in July.

Ostergren said the defendant has been ordered to pay the Atalissa Volunteer Fire Department in full.

“It was important to me that he be held accountable for his conduct while also making sure the fire department had the money back as quickly as possible,” Ostergren said. “I know those funds are an important part of providing fire protection to the people served by the fire department.”
