An exhibit showcasing the past, present, and future of Amtrak was stationed in Burlington.

Free tours in the exhibit train have been scheduled from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 and from noon – 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to a spokesperson from Amtrak. Veterans were invited to be first aboard on both days.

Visitors aboard the exhibit see workable signals, virtual sleeping accommodation and trivia, and the locomotive control stand and horns. The interior features photos, uniforms, vintage advertising and memorabilia throughout Amtrak’s history.

The Exhibit Train was painted the locomotive red, white and blue to honor the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and those who served. Upon the train is a logo including 50 stars and “America’s Railroad Salutes Our Veterans.”

The display is family-friendly, offering an area for children with activities, called Chuggington Depot.

A drawing offering round-trip tickets to Omaha or Chicago will be held. The trip will be on the Amtrak California Zephyr.

The exhibit is located at the Amtrak station in Burlington on S. Main Street.
