More than a year after it was initially discovered, a Louisiana sinkhole is still active and causing damage.

In video posted on YouTube by the Assumption Parish, trees sink into the sinkhole in Bayou Corne.

The sink hole was initially reported as areas of bubbling spots in May 2012, followed by residents reporting tremors that were confirmed by the U.S. Geological Survey.  By early August of that year, authorities confirmed the sinkhole and the area was evacuated.   Occasional “burps” have been reported in the sinkhole as crews monitored its seismic activity and constantly worked to shore up the area around the sinkhole.

Assumption Parish Police Jury posted information in an online blog in August 2013 of several “burps” happening in the sinkhole just before the trees sank.
