A fire extinguisher was not enough to put out fire in a car on Interstate 88 in East Moline.
Police said the car’s driver noticed smoke coming from somewhere in the car as he traveled eastbound on I-88 near I-80 at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. He pulled the car to the side of the road and got out.
A police officer arrived and tried to use a fire extinguisher on the burning car, but it was not enough to put out the fire. Moments later, the car was engulfed in flames.
Westbound lanes of I-88 were blocked for nearly 45 minutes as the fire was extinguished and the charred car was towed.
No injuries were reported.
