Motorcyclist survives being hit by truck

Police said a motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he collided with a pickup truck in Aledo, Illinois.

Police said a motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he collided with a pickup truck in Aledo, Illinois.

Police Chief J. Michael Sponsler said the crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013.  Benjamin Phillis, 28, of Altona was eastbound on Illinois Route 17 when a westbound 2013 Ford pickup truck turned left in front of the motorcycle he was riding.  The motorcycle hit the front passenger side of the pickup, throwing Phillis to the pavement.

Phillis was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sponsler said the motorcycle sustained heavy damage and had to be towed.

The pickup driver, 46-year-old Doyle Speer, was not injured.
