Unity Point Health - Trinity in Rock Island is trying to meet the standards set by the Partnership for a Healthier America's Hospital Healthy Food initiative.

The initiative includes organizations committed to "work over the next several years to improve the nutrition of patient meals as well as that of the food options in on-site cafeterias," according to the partnership's website.

"We know that a lot of chronic diseases are lifestyle driven; either poor diet, lack of exercise.  This is just one way we can really commit to setting a better example for people in making healthy choices," said Unity Point Health - Trinity spokesperson Erin Lounsberry.

The goal is to have 60% of the meals served at the facility contain fewer than 525 calories.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics also participates in the partnership.
