Thirty-one Rock Island High School seniors received an award recognizing earning a 3.5 or higher grade point average for six semesters.
The award was established in honor of Charles O. Austin Jr., who was principal of RIHS for 14 years and superintendent of the Rock Island-Milan District 41 for seven years.
“Austin demanded excellence, was a role model for achievement and directly impacted the lives of thousands of our community’s youth,” said a statement from the district communications office.
The students receiving the award were recognized for completed six semesters of study with a 3.5 GPA or higher during each semester. The 2013 Charles O. Austin Scholars are:
