There is a call for teddy bears in the Quad Cities.

The Nick Teddy Foundation is hosting a Teddy Bear Drive until September 1st. Anyone can drop off a new toy teddy bear in its original packaging at locations throughout the Quad Cities, including:

- Haven Studios, 105 South Chicago St, Suite 5, Geneseo,

- River Valley District Library, 214 S Main St, Port Byron,

- Cordova District Library, 402 Main Ave, Cordova,

- Bettendorf Family YMCA, 3800 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf,

- and Two Rivers YMCA, 2040 53rd St, Moline.

The teddy bears will then be donated to Rick's House of Hope in Davenport, as well as the Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.

"Talking works for adults sometimes and that's kind of how we're used to coping, but kids need something more concrete," says Emily Gordon, Program Director with Rick's House of Hope. "We do a lot of that kind of work here here anyway. We do a lot of play therapy and things in the sand and outside games and use that to talk about feelings and tough things."

The Teddy Bear Drive is new this year to the Nick Teddy Foundation, which was created last year in memory of Port Byron, Illinois man, Nick Strub. Nick was only 29 years old when he lost his life in 2011 to complications of Ewing's Sarcoma, which is a pediatric bone cancer.

The foundation held its first 5K last year. This year's 5K is marked for Saturday, September 14th.
