To expand its language and culture program, the Bettendorf Community School District is hosting a guest teacher from China.

For the 2013-2014 school year, Lu Yang will be teaching in the school district as part of the Chinese Guest Teacher Program. The program works in conjunction with the College Board and China’s Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban.

Yang is one of nearly 200 Chinese guest teachers teaching at schools across 30 states. She came to Bettendorf on August 3, 2013 and will be teaching Chinese 1 at the high school. For the previous three years, she taught Chinese in Bangkok.

Assistant Superintendent, Mike Raso said the school board is excited to bring this new educational experience to the district.

“Chinese is such a relevant language and will be a great addition to our world language offerings,” said Raso.

Over 800 teachers have participated in the Chinese Guest Teacher Program since the first group of guests arrived in 2007.
