2013 Whiteside County Fair winds down the summer

The Whiteside County Fair is the last summer fair for the Quad City area.

The Whiteside County Fair is the last summer fair for the Quad City area.

After 143 years, Todd Mickley, the director of publicity, said year after year, they still try to add new attractions.

The 2013 fair offered a unique competition between three chainsaw sculptors. Their creations will be auctioned-off later in the week.

Mickley said the turnout at the fair has been strong, and fair organizers have possibly seen an increase in fair-patrons. He attributed the good numbers to great weather, music, and the fact that the week is a great opportunity for families to spend time together as the summer winds-down.

"There's a lot of people I talked to that haven't had time because of busy schedules this summer,” said Mickley. “I think that people are going to take the time to come to the fair. We’ve got school starting next week so they're really trying to enjoy some summer and time with the family."

The fair runs through Saturday, August 17.  Tickets are $7 for adults, $1 for kids ages 6-11, and free for kids 5-and-under.
