String of burglaries reported in Bettendorf, Davenport

Bettendorf Police are warning residents of a rash of nighttime break-ins. Burglars are entering houses through open windows and unlocked doors while the owners ...

More than a half-dozen home burglaries have been reported in Bettendorf over a two-week span.

According to city officials, seven residential burglaries have been reported in the past two weeks. Most recently, Plymouth Drive residents reported two break-ins on the morning of Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

Other burglaries took place on Old Freeport Place, St. Andrews Circle, Barcelona Street, Greenbrier Drive, and Prairie Vista Circle.

Suspects are entering houses through unlocked doors, or cutting screens and crawling through open windows during the night. Residents have been home sleeping when the crimes occur.

Neighbors said they would now think twice about shutting their windows at night, despite the cool weather.

"It's a little unsettling, to say the least. I almost left my windows open last night, but fortunately, I had this little nagging thought, 'Oh, maybe I better shut them.' So, I'm very glad I did," said Plymouth Drive resident Becky Schuetz.

Police are advising residents to make sure all doors and windows are locked.

Davenport Police have also reported similar burglaries, but there's no word on whether the break-ins are connected. Both Bettendorf and Davenport Police Departments are actively investigating the cases.
