Bettendorf Opens 18th Street Just in Time for School

To help ease the commute to school, a Bettendorf street that has been torn-up for most of the summer will open, part of the time.

To help ease the commute to school, a Bettendorf street that has been torn-up for most of the summer opens Wednesday.

As students go back to school, 18th Street between Spruce Hills Drive and Middle Road will be open, according to the Bettendorf public information officer. The city's website says that part of 18th Street has been closed since May 28th.

The opening of 18th Street should make traffic flow into Bettendorf Middle School much easier. The middle school is just east of 18th Street in between Middle Road and Spruce Hills Drive.

Crews will begin working during school hours on the sidewalks, so they don’t interfere with school traffic. No work will be done before or after school.

Contractors will be working on sidewalks south of Avalon Drive Wednesday. There are now signs up not allowing walkers to use the sidewalk on the west side of 18th Street.
