Three days after it was reported, crews continued to work to unplug a sewer line that caused wastewater to erupt from manholes in Clinton, Iowa.
A statement from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said the discharge was discovered Friday, August 9, 2013 in an industrial area near Mill Creek and Manufacturing Drive. Clinton city officials reported the discharge to the DNR on Monday, August 12.
The blocked sewer line was allowing wastewater to discharge from manholes in a wooded area about 2,000 feet from where a city contractor initially began to work to unplug the line. The heavily wooded terrain and the long section of sewer line involved slowed work to unplug the line.
The DNR statement said the area affected has limited access for children and pets.
