4-year-old among Illinois shooting victims

A four-year old girl was among three people shot near Portage Park in northwestern Chicago.

The shooting was reported on North Central Avenue near Irving Park shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013.

Police said four-year-old Shyla Rivera was shot in the hip when someone opened fire from a vehicle that pulled up alongside the car in which she was riding.

A 17-year-old boy was also shot in the thigh and a 20-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds.  One of the victims is reportedly Shyla’s brother.

A statement from the Chicago Fire Department media office said all three victims were hospitalized in serious to critical condition after the shooting.

No suspects were in custody.
