Quad City construction projects begin Monday

Construction projects are starting-up near Coal Valley, in Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island.

Construction projects are starting up near Coal Valley, Davenport, and Moline.

Starting Monday, August 12, 2013, crews will begin work on US-6 at Niabi Zoo Road east of Coal Valley. The intersection will be reconstructed to add turn lanes and replace the bridge over Shaffer Creek, which is west of Niabi Zoo Road.

The $3.8 million project will be done by Valley Construction Company.

In Davenport, East Locust Street between Kenwood Ave. and Forest Road will be down to one lane in each direction.

Both eastbound lanes will be closed as sewer-related repairs are completed. Work is scheduled to be wrapping up on Friday, August 16.

To avoid delays and heavy traffic, drivers are advised to use other routes.

A spokesperson from the city said crews will begin resurfacing of 12th Ave. from 19th Street to 34th Street in Moline.

The work beginning Monday will include a new asphalt driving surface, sidewalk and driveway improvements, and utility improvements.

12th Ave. will be down to one lane in each direction during the project and side roads may close occasionally as crews make improvements.

Traffic will be directed by flaggers, and the roadway will be open at all times.

Construction planners expect the project to be done in early December 2013.

Beginning Monday, crews will be working on pavement maintenance in Rock Island in the 2100 block of Stadium Drive and south of Blackhawk Road along the 4600 block of 36th Street.

Work in these areas may cause travel delays. Construction and detour signs will be posted as necessary. Crews expect the work to be completed within the week.
