Authorities close Eiffel Tower for 2 hours
(CNN) — The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated and closed for two hours Friday afternoon over an apparent security concern.
The renowned 1,024-foot structure was closed at 2:10 p.m. because of “an anonymous phone call to the police,” a Paris police spokesman told CNN.
It reopened at 4:10 p.m., the spokesman said.
Details about the phone call weren’t immediately available.
Opened in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was the world’s tallest structure until the Chrysler Building rose in New York in 1930.
More than 6 million people visited the tower in 2012.
