Suspect captured minutes after credit union robbed

Less than 15 minutes after a Davenport credit union robbery was reported, police captured a possible suspect in Rock Island.

The DuTrac Credit Union at 3100 West Kimberly Road reported an armed robbery just before 9 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013.  Initial reports indicated the suspect inferred, but did not actually display, a weapon.  He was described as wearing a plaid shirt with a white or gray shirt underneath.  He had a mustache and wore a black bandana over his face.

He reportedly got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, leaving an a blue Chevrolet car with Illinois license plates.  The car was last seen headed west on Kimberly Road.

Davenport Police spotted a car matching the suspect vehicle description as it approached the Centennial Bridge about ten minutes after the robbery was reported.   Police reportedly followed the car across the bridge, then pulled it over with assistance from a Rock Island squad car at 15th Street and 5th Avenue in Rock Island.

Police later confirmed they arrested 51-year-old Duane Maulding in connection with the robbery. Maulding is also a person of interest in connection with the July 2, 2013 robbery of the Ascentra Credit Union branch on West 53rd in Davenport.

Police said Maulding was held in the Rock Island County Jail for a parole violation while he awaits a grand jury hearing for the DuTrac Credit Union robbery.
