As a video of Davenport Police in an altercation with an alleged shoplifter continues to go viral world-wide, the Davenport mayor and city leaders are weighing in.

Alderman Bill Boom says he saw the video showing the confrontation between Davenport Police officers and an accused shoplifter at a Von Maur store for the first time this week.

“Police officer assaults woman in Davenport, so obviously that catches my attention right away,” said Boom.

"Just this week when everyone else did, saw the video on TV and apparently all over the country and all over the world,” said Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba.

Both say there are two sides to the story.

“I think like everyone else I was disturbed, troubled by what I saw, but there’s always two sides to every issue,” said Gluba.

Davenport Police Chief Frank Donchez says after an internal investigation, the appropriate disciplinary action was taken, but wasn't specific about what the action was.

“I don't know the details and I have trust and respect for the chief and he has the policy,” said Mayor Gluba.
