A traveling exhibit honoring military veterans has stopped in Geneseo, Illinois.

The Traveling Wall is displayed in communities across the country by the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, which strives to honor patriotism and military service.

The AVTT also offers a comprehensive online database of casualties from military conflicts involving the U.S. around the world.

The Traveling Wall is an 80% replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall that is in Washington D.C.  Each panel is four feet wide and eight feet tall.  Panels in the wall include one listing U.S. presidents, panels that display timeline and remembrance tributes to veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Global War on Terror, plus tributes to other U.S. military conflicts and to the victims of the 9-11 attacks.

The wall arrived in Geneseo late Wednesday, August 7 and was set up for public display in Geneseo City Park the next day.  Events accompanying the Geneseo stop include opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 8; evening ceremonies including food and music at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 9; events honoring Vietnam veterans including a 2 p.m. parade followed by music and food Saturday, August 10; and 1 p.m. food followed by 2 p.m. closing ceremonies Sunday, August 11.

When it leaves Geneseo, the wall was scheduled to go next to Clarksville, Indiana.
