Honor flight to Washington DC planned for veterans

Taking off from the airport in Moline, the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities will take veterans to the nation’s capital.

In October of 2013 a flight carrying about 160 Korean veterans will travel to Washington, D.C. to see monuments that honor their sacrifice and service to the U.S. For its fifth time, Hy-Vee will be sponsoring the flight.

Director of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, Bob Morrison, said that each flight costs about $90,000. The organization has a waiting list of 800 Korean war veterans and about 50 WWII veterans.

Morrison stressed that giving these vets the opportunity to reap the rewards of their service because they sacrificed years of their lives to keep America free.
