Officials said they are beefing up security at the 2013 Iowa State Fair.

Extra staff, including undercover agents will be present at the fair this year, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety. They also will be checking bags at entrances.

Director of Public Safety’s Division of Intelligence, Jim Saunders, said they are supporting a national campaign, If You See Something, Say Something. The campaign is to remind fair-goers that keeping an area safe is a community effort. He said don’t be afraid to share concerns or anything that looks out of place or suspicious, and to follow your instincts.

The undercover agents that have been recruited this year will work to observe and find any suspicious activity, keeping the grounds safe from threats.

The fair starts on Thursday, August 8, 2013 and lasts until Sunday, August 18.
