A 34-year-old Iowa City man is accused of stealing and selling computers that belong to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Brian Manary, of Iowa City, was charged in Johnson County, Iowa with first-degree theft and with one count of ongoing criminal conduct.

Tom Moore, spokesman for the hospital, confirmed Manary was accused of keeping money he made selling approximately 35 computers, worth more than $45,000, that belong to UIHC.  Manary worked in the hospital’s information technology department from January 2008 until he was fired June 28, 2013.

Manary allegedly sold the computers to co-workers and family members.  Moore said there were no patient records on the computers.

Court records show Manary was formally charged August 5.  He remained held at the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash-only bond.   His next court date was set for August 19.
