One of NASCAR’s biggest names is in an Iowa hospital after a crash at an Oskaloosa track Monday night.
Stewart was leading the 30-lap Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway when he got caught up in a four car crash.
Stewart’s business manager Eddie Jarvis said Stewart was alert and talking when he was taken off the track on a stretcher.
Stewart-Haas Racing says the NASCAR Champion had surgery on his right leg for a broken tibia and fibula.
They will update fans on his condition later this afternoon.
This is Stewart’s third non-NASCAR crash in the past month.
A test run scheduled for Tuesday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway has been canceled and a replacement driver for this weekend’s race at Watkins Glen has not been named.
