A group is working to help students from military families make sure they have all the necessary supplies as they start the school year.

Operation Homefront held a distribution day for school supplies in Milan on Sunday, August 4, 2013. The group is trying to ease the burden for parents, as school supply lists grow and add up in your wallet.

Sunday was just one of seven distribution days part of the Back to School Brigade program, according to James Michael, the Executive Director for State of Illinois, Operation Homefront.

“When I talk about who we help, I try to remember to use the term military community, not just the military because those kids, those spouses, those parents – they are all serving right along with those servicemembers, Michael said. “They’re all making a commitment. They’re all making sacrifices. They are all contributing to the defense of our nation.”

The Back to School Brigade has helped over 200 kids with a parent in the military. Donations for the program came from Dollar Tree customers and from the Illinois Currency Exchange Charitable Foundation.
