A local energy company is warning customers about a telephone scam asking for financial information.

A spokesperson from MidAmerican Energy said during the week of Monday, July 22, 2013 dozens of the company’s customers reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be with MidAmerican. The caller tells the energy customer that there is an issue with the account and an immediate payment needs to be made, or else they will be disconnected.

The caller asks for credit card or bank account information to process the payment.

MidAmerican Energy is suggesting that any personal information like credit card numbers, account information should not be given to a suspicious or unsolicited caller.

If you get a suspicious call or any unusual contact related to energy services, MidAmerican Energy said you should end the call and notify local law enforcement. Also contact MidAmerican Energy to report the incident at 888-427-5632.
