An Illinois city has been named one of the friendliest in the country.

Galena was ranked number two in the list published by Condé Nast Traveler. Its rank was the result of a Readers’ Choice Survey.

Scoring 87.9 out of 100, it was just about 3.5 points behind the number one city – Charleston, South Carolina.

Condé Nast Traveler had nearly 46,500 responses to the survey. Readers who participated in the survey referred to Galena as quaint and welcoming, and noted the town for being a relaxing destination with lots to do.

“The distinction is another feather in the cap for Galena,” said director of sales & marketing for the Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Celestino Ruffini. “Our community welcomes visitors from throughout the world that are looking to take a look back into time and experience what small-town America is really all about.”

Galena was just one of two cities from the Midwest to make the top ten. The other was Branson, Missouri – ranked at number 10.
