Journey through Iowa: RAGBRAI 2013 ends in Fort Madison

In Lee County, Iowa tens of thousands of bicyclists finished a roughly-405 mile route through the state.

On their last day of the journey, RAGBRAI Riders left from Fairfield, Iowa on Saturday, July 27, 2013 and ended in Fort Madison. The ride began on Sunday, July 21 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

To mark the end of their travels, bikers dipped their front tire in the Mississippi River on Saturday.

“Just coming in that last stretch. It’s downhill, which was terrific, and then coming into this really pretty, nice town and everybody clapping and cheering you on,” said one RAGBRAI participant. “It’s just really like a really fulfilling feeling.”

The 2013 route was the shortest route in the event’s four decades.
