A Scott County, Iowa man will spend ten years in prison for his role in a fatal heroin overdose suffered by an 18-year-old girl.
Andrew Rahn, 20, formerly of Long Grove, was sentenced in federal court Thursday, July 25, 2013 to 120 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin resulting in death.
Prosecutors said Rahn admitted to buying $120 worth of heroin in Rock Island, Illinois on June 6, 20123. Rahn and 18-year-old Tralee Duffey shot up the heroin in the parking lot of Duck Creek Mall in Bettendorf and then they went to Rahn’s home in Long Grove, where Rahn passed out.
Rahn called 911 after he awoke to find Duffey unresponsive. Duffey was taken to an area hospital where she later died. Her cause of death was determined to be heroin overdose.
Investigators said they found syringes, heroin residue on burnt spoons, pills and marijuana in Rahn’s home.
In addition to his 120-month prison sentence, Rahn was ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay $100 to the Crime Victims Fund.
Prosecutors said the man who arranged the heroin purchase and the man from whom Rahn bought the heroin have also both pleaded guilty in connection with the case. They were scheduled to be sentenced in federal court September 12, 2013.
