App lets you swap leftovers instead of trashing them

Developers of a new app say they can help reduce waste, support local businesses and build relationships by helping you swap leftover food.

If you hate the idea of throwing out leftover food, you can just snap and share a photo of leftovers you’re willing to share with others.

The app lets you view photos of nearby available leftovers and, if you want any of them, you can arrange for pickup or delivery of the food.

Those behind the LeftoverSwap app say the idea is to decrease waste and to feed hungry people with perfectly good food that might otherwise end up in the trash.

“LeftoverSwappers don’t feel the need to eat an enormous restaurant portion, and instead pass it on to a hungrier neighbor, in turn learning their name and avoiding excess calories,” according to the LeftoverSwap website.

Feedback on the LeftoverSwap Twitter page ranged from full support to comments from people grossed out by the idea.

The LeftoverSwap app was still under development.
