Firefighters found the body of a dog inside a house that caught fire in Burlington, Iowa.

The fire was reported just after 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2013 at a home in the 1000 block of North Eighth.  The fire was confined to the dining room of the home, but smoke and heat damage was reported throughout the house.

When they searched the home, firefighters found no people inside but they did discover the body of a dog that perished.

Firefighters said they quickly extinguished the fire, but were called back to the scene just before 2:30 p.m. when attic insulation was smoldering.

Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the structure plus $30,000 to the contents of the home.

Investigators determined the fire cause was accidental.
