A longtime boss for the Rock Island County Highway Department has been indicted on two felonies by a grand jury.

James Geiger, an assistant foreman and 35-year veteran of the department, is charged with felony theft and official misconduct, also a felony.

The indictments follow a six week investigation by the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department, first reported by WQAD back in April.

"What I can tell you is he allegedly took fuel, county property, and county services in excess of $500 for his own personal gain," said Rock Island County States Attorney John McGehee, shortly after the indictments were handed down Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

"Materials he did take were paid for by public taxpayers money. Yes," said McGehee.

The indictment states the value of the alleged thefts are between $500 to $10,000 during a six month period between July and December of 2012.

Several other highway department workers were interviewed during the investigation. No one else was charged.

Geiger was not arrested, but will report to the jail for a mugshot and fingerprinting on August 13th. His arraignment is also set for that day.
