A 13-year-old severely autistic boy was found about 14 hours after he was reported missing from a summer camp for disabled kids.

A statement from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office said the boy was reported missing from Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa at about 7:15 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013.

More than 200 people including emergency responders from city, county and state agencies as well as camp staff and search and rescue dogs continued to search for the missing boy Tuesday morning, July 23.

In a Facebook post just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Camp Courageous announced the boy had been found.

“The missing camper that has been reported was found in the past hour. He is OK. Everyone at Camp Courageous is delighted and we can’t extend our appreciation enough to those men and women that provided their professional expertise on locating him. Thank you to the many volunteers and to everyone who called offering to volunteer with their time and resources in this effort,” the post said.

The boy was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

When he disappeared, the missing boy was walking south on a trail toward a campsite.  He was described as 5-feet 6-inches tall and weighing 155 pounds.  His identity was not yet released.

Camp Courageous is a year-round campground facility for disabled people of all ages.
