Car-enthusiasts got the chance to enjoy their hobby while supporting a cause in Bettendorf.

The Rev Up for Gigi’s Playhouse event took place on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 3 p.m. – 8p.m. at Scott Community College. The event benefits Gigi’s Playhouse, which is a Down Syndrome Awareness Center.

One of the organizers, Chad Johnson, said the event offers a venue for people to bring their cars or motorcycles and show them off to spectators. Door prizes were also enjoyed by the crowd.

Johnson, whose daughter has Down Syndrome, is an advocate for Gigi’s Playhouse. He said they offer support to the community and the opportunity for families to visit with people in similar situations and share their experiences.

“It’s a good valuable resource to go if you have a child with Down Syndrome,” Johnson said.

For those who wanted to bring a vehicle to showcase, the fee was $15. For spectators, the show was free.

“It’s great to see that there’s support and all the different communities from car guys to motorcycle guys,” said Johnson. “They all come out and support the cause.”
