Galesburg residents could see discolored water coming from their taps because of work being done at the West Main Street water plant.

Galesburg Public Information Officer Sue Davidson said crews were changing piping at the plant and that change could result in cloudiness or mild to dark rust or brown coloration in the water throughout Galesburg.

Crews were flushing lines to clear discolored water from the system.

“Areas nearest the plant on W. Main Street will clear first followed by other higher water flow areas such as Main Street, west to east; and Henderson Street,  south to north. Some other areas of our system will clear out much slower because the water flows in those areas are lower and it takes more time for the water to change over,” Davidson said.

Davidson said water production staff told her consuming the water presents no danger to public health.  There was no boil order announced.

Crews expected water to be clear for the entire Galesburg community by sometime Saturday, July 20, 2013.
