Rolling Stone’s Boston Bomber Cover Sparks Controversy

The latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine has a lot of people outraged by the face on their cover.

Readers are canceling their subscriptions and some stores are refusing to sell the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine.  The controversy is over who’s on the cover, Dzhokar Tsarnaerv. Some say the charged Boston bomber is being given the rock star treatment.

"They really shouldn’t be glamorizing such a terrible thing,” says Kyle McCaw who opposes the cover.

Hundreds of people commented on the Rolling Stone’s Facebook page expressing their anger in the magazines decision to put Tsarnaev’s face on the cover. Several said they would cancel their subscription.

In a statement from the Rolling Stone, the editor’s wrote this, “The fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is young, and in the same age group as many of our readers, makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue and gain a more complete understanding of how a tragedy like this happens.”

People affected directly aren’t too happy about their decision either.

“Why would they publicize a guy who destroyed people's lives, doesn't make any sense to me. Very poor taste.” Said Boston’s mayor, Thomas Menino.

Stores like CVS and Walgreens have come out and said they won’t sell the issue. The issue hits the stands Friday, July 19, 2013.
