String of burglaries reported in Mediapolis

A business, a vehicle and several homes were reportedly broken into over a two-day period of time in Mediapolis, Iowa.

A business, a vehicle and several homes were reportedly broken into over a two-day period of time in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Police said just after 3 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 someone reported seeing a person carrying a gas can and walking through a back yard in the 500 block of North Orchard.  At about that same time, someone in the 400 block of North Street reported gasoline and a gas can had been stolen out of their garage.

Alcohol and a gas can were also taken sometime during that night in a garage burglary in the 400 block of North Harrison.

Another resident in the 300 block of N. Harrison reported their vehicle window was broken and a purse missing from the vehicle.  That burglary was believed to have happened between 12:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Employees of Shrock Lumber Company at 109 Curve Street discovered a break-in at their business at 8 a.m. Monday, July 15.  Police said someone forced their way into the business sometime between 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13 and 8 a.m. Monday.  A Stihl chainsaw and a “large amount” of DeWalt tools were taken.

Another garage burglary was reported in the 800 block of Valley Street after it was discovered Tuesday, July 16, 2013.  Nothing was immediately reported missing there.
